Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt (1994) is John’s first solo album. Basically, it’s a double album, although it is just one cd. This is an overview of the second half: Usually Just a T-Shirt. Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt was recorded during the Blood Sugar Sex Magik recordings and tour and after his first departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Around this time, Frusciante’s drug abuse increased and increased. The album is quite experimental and psychedelic, full of backwards played guitars and pianos, mind twisting lyrics, screams and instrumentals, scratching guitars and deformed vocals. It’s very dark and depressing, sometimes even scary, but very beautiful and pure too. The ‘low quality’ adds very well to the whole ambience, in my opinion. Main themes are probably: depression, love, letting people down, drugs, loneliness So what do you think about the album? Or what do you think the songs are about? Or do you have a question about the art? (why I used this specific painting to accompany the music, who made it or where you can find it etc.) Or something else? Please place a comment!
